Happy Birthday America!

Happy Birthday America!

I hope you’re doing well, and that you had a nice Independence Day weekend.

Our village puts on a four day fair here every 4th of July complete with rides and elephant ears, a parade, and fireworks. It’s a big deal for the locals. We always make it in town at least once to take a stroll down the midway, grab a bite, and take in the scene.

Summer’s in full swing and the mercury is high! We’ve had plenty of days at 90° with lots of sun. Every season has something nostalgic about it that takes me back. Summer has the nights. Walking at twilight when it’s cooling off from a hot day reminds me of running around with friends. It’s nine o’clock and the sun’s just setting. Lightning bugs are flashing to lure you farther and further away from the house. Bats swoop and dart overhead against the pink and purple sky. Of course, the woods are great this time of year. It can certainly be a bit hot for camping. But if you plan accordingly, you can pick a trail that requires a few stream crossings, and a campsite by swimming hole.

In honor of Independence Day, I’m releasing six more pipes in the Trailhead Series highlighting trails with names that reflect our national heritage and the spirit of America.

I’ll be in the shop for the next few weeks getting a mess of pipes together for the NASPC show in Columbus, August eighth and ninth. I also want to get some extra out for the Gatlinburlier so I can make another trip down south.

As we recover from too much delicious grilled meat, potato salad, pie, and beer—oh the beer—let’s continue to soak up the summer. Throw in a line, catch lightning bugs, and do a cannon ball. It’s what George Washington would want you to do.
